10 Fall Home Maintenance Tips

Fall is here once again, and it’s that time of year to do a maintenance checklist on your home. If you aren’t sure where to start, don’t worry: we’ve come up with a list of 10 Fall Home Maintenance Tips to help!

Clean Your Gutters- Cleaning out clogged gutters helps prevent rainwater damage to your home. Performing this maintenance now will help to prevent costly water damage later!

Trim Tree Limbs- Hire a professional to come trim and/or prune your trees. This helps keep your trees heathy, strong, and uniform, will prevent overgrowth, and could potentially prevent structural damage from a tree blowing over during a storm!

Check All Faucets for Leaks-Inspect your interior and exterior faucets for leaks and address them immediately.

Lubricate Your Garage Door’s Parts- Garage doors need lubrication to work smoothly. Check your system’s owner’s manual for detailed lubrication information or hire a licensed professional to come help you with this service.

Schedule Water Heater Service- Fall is the ideal time of year to have your water heater serviced by a professional. Keeping your water heater working year-round is important.  Some systems require regular tank flushes and maintenance.

Clean Your Dryer Vent– Lint builds up in your dryer vent and this can cause your dryer to work less efficiently…and can even cause a fire! You can clean out the vent yourself, or you can hire a professional duct cleaner to clean your vent(s) for you.

Schedule a Chimney Inspection- This is the best time of year for a chimney inspection and routine cleaning. Hire a professional to clean your chimney annually. This can help to prevent fires and other damage!

Inspect Your Driveway- Make sure to pull weeds that are between paver joints as they can shift pavers over time. Fill paver joints will polymeric sand.  This helps hold pavers in place and helps prevent weeds from growing.

Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors- Test the batteries all of your home’s detectors to make sure they work, and replace batteries as needed.

Pressure Wash Your Home and Windows- This is an inexpensive proactive maintenance item that can be done to protect your home’s exterior paint while protecting your investment. Late fall is the best time in Florida to pressure wash your home, after the rainy season has ended and the weather is mild (not too hot or too cold).
