The Top 10 Exterior Paint Color Trends in 2022

While exterior trends usually don’t change much, we've recently noticed a shift in popular house paint colors. Bright whites are being traded for more confident, statement-making colors on siding, trim, and front doors. There are a lot of vibrant blues and greens, creamy neutrals, cheerful pastels, and even charcoal and black. A lot of times exteriors are now seen as an extension of a home's square footage, so giving your house a fresh coat of paint adding a pop of color to a door can do a lot to rejuvenate the exterior and make it a place where you want to hang out.

We compiled a list of 10 of the trending exterior house colors, so read on to discover them!

1. Warm, Earthy Neutrals

There has recently been a warming trend throughout interior color palettes, and now earthy browns and other warm neutrals are making their way outside, too. Organic shades that mimic the color of clay, earth, or stone allow homes to blend into the surrounding environment instead of standing out. For homes with lush green landscaping, try a rich chocolaty brown, while warm sepia tones look great on homes in drier climates.

2. All-Black Exteriors

Dark, saturated hues have the power to make any house stand out and look more modern, and people are gravitating toward this surprising and modern look. The darker hues pair beautifully with surrounding greenery, but if you don't want to commit to painting your whole exterior a dark color, these hues are also great for a front door or shutters, as they make for a very classic focal point.

3. Dusty Charcoal

Rich shades of charcoal are rising in popularity as well. Dark hues bring a stylish edge to the body of homes, from charcoal to navy.

4. Warm Whites and Creams

Rather than bright white, more subdued options are increasing in popularity, according to many manufacturers. Many new builds are also pairing these subdued whites with warm, natural wood tones.

 5. Vibrant Greens

Rich green shades are a nod to nature and its rejuvenating qualities. Darker exterior shades are very flattering to greenery. A smokey green shade would be a beautiful exterior color, especially paired with vibrant plants surrounding the home.

6. Muted Gray-Greens

If you're looking for a nature-inspired shade that is more subdued, muddy gray-greens are becoming a new favorite. There is a greater interest in color that inspires us and supports our well-being, and this calming range of colors connects us back with nature.

7. Classic Navy

As a popular exterior color in 2022, classic navy is ideal for both classic and contemporary homes and pairs well with several accents, such as rich yellow or natural wood textures.

8. Black Exteriors with a Contrasting Door

We touched on the darker shades for exterior homes already, but don’t forget about the front door!  Using black siding with a lighter entrance can help draw attention to the architecture of your home in a fresh, unexpected way.

9. Rosy Doors for Off-White Homes

You don't have to paint your entire exterior to update your curb appeal. Painting your front door is one of the easiest and quickest ways to boost your curb appeal, and it’s a quick project to complete.

10. Charcoal Shades with Muted Pastels

When choosing accent shades for homes with darker siding, consider a few non-traditional shades for a playful, eye-catching combination. For trim and accents, pastels like pink, baby blue, and lemon can add some much-needed fun and cheer to exteriors.
