1960's Living Room Remodel

We recently tackled a fun and challenging project - a house that was built in 1964 and had never been updated. The finishes the original builder chose were not that great, so that coupled with the fact that it hadn’t been updated made the house in dire need of repair and TLC.

The owners of the house wanted a space that would bring their family together. A living room is the hub of a home. Most time is spent there, and it’s an important place to use for hosting celebrations, family gatherings and movie marathons.

First off, we removed the windows and replaced them with energy-efficient windows. The older windows couldn’t open, so it was important to the owners to have windows that would open to utilize the breezy and beautiful Tri-City weather.

Next up, the walls were framed in, insulated, and new drywall was put up. Beforehand, cold drafts got in during the winter and the summer days made the house like an oven due to poor insulation and old walls - now, the house stays cool in the summer and warm and cozy in the winter!

And last, the fun part: paint and finishing touches! A little color can go a long way in brightening up your home, and can be just the thing to add life into a dull room or space that’s lacking. The olive green on the lower half and cream on the upper add a splash of color to an otherwise monotonous palette and makes the room appear brighter, bigger, and just all-around more comfortable.

Finishing touches can not only create a better feeling living space, but it can add value to your home! Crown molding and chair rail are an easy way to accomplish both of those. The ceiling fan does the same - and it’s great to have a fan to move stale air around and help cool off a room!
